Tracks always tell a fascinating story! Learn the basics of animal tracking on this interactive walk and gain the skills to better determine what our animal neighbors are up to in the winter.
Life Under the Snow– Saturday, Feb. 24; 1:00-3:00pm
Did you know there is a whole world of activity UNDER the snow? That’s right—all kinds of critters are going about their business throughout the cold winter. Bundle up and join us as we discover what their world is like!
The Big Night for Amphibians—SUNDAY, March 25; 1:00-3:00pm
Every spring, on the first warm rainy night of the year, a mysterious ritual takes place: many species of amphibians (including spotted salamanders and wood frogs) emerge from the forest and migrate en masse to vernal pools to lay their eggs. Join us to learn more about this intriguing phenomenon and how you can help salamanders and frogs reach their destination when the Big Night arrives!
Birds of Prey - Saturday, April 14; 10:00-11:30
From the tiny American kestrel to the great horned owl to the majestic bald eagle, NH is home to many different species of birds of prey. Learn how and what these birds hunt, survival strategies, and the best way to get a good look at them.
Amazing Vernal Pools - Saturday, April 28; 10:00-11:30
Vernal pools are the ONLY place certain amphibians (such as wood frogs and spotted salamanders) lay their eggs. We’ll explore a beautiful, wooded vernal pool on our property where we have found their eggs in the past and hopefully get a chance to see them up close. Please wear your mud boots!
Spring at the Pond - Saturday, May 12; 10:00-11:30
Spring is in full swing and the pond is alive with all kinds of critters! There are the big ones you'd expect - turtles, frogs, ducks—but there is also a whole hidden world of tiny creatures (including baby dragonflies!) that live in the water. We'll bring our pond exploring gear and see what we can find.
Beginner Birders - Saturday, May 19; 10:00-11:30
Calling all beginner birders! We’ll explore Prescott Farm in search of our feathered friends and learn about the best places to find birds, how to call them for a better view, and how to identify some of the more common species.
Dragonflies - Saturday, June 9; 10:00-11:30
Zip, zip, zip! There is nothing quite like watching dragonflies zipping through the air catching insects to eat! Our exploration will take us to the pond to find baby dragonflies and the fields to observe adults in action. Please wear mud boots!
Butterflies & Moths - Saturday, June 16; 10:00-11:30
What is the difference between butterflies and moths? From the
gardens to the forest, we’ll discover the best habitats for our fluttery friends and their interesting life cycle.
